Government Affairs

MCOFU’s Government Affairs program is the one true voice of correction officers in the legislative and political process on all issues, both pro and con, affecting the profession and the individuals who put their lives on the line every day.

The day to day lobbying efforts on Beacon Hill include offering both oral and written testimony before legislative committees, legislative tracking of all issues that impact the membership, one-on-one conversations with representatives and senators regarding the correctional issues of the day, as well as general lobbying on any and all legislative proposals that we either support or oppose.

A critical component of our Legislative Affairs efforts is the use of the MCOFU Political Action Committee (PAC) to complement our day to day lobbying. Through the generosity of individual members, MCOFU has quickly built one of the largest PACs in the state, which allows us to demonstrate our support of legislators who understand the issues that we care about and work to support our agenda on Beacon Hill. Additionally, when it is appropriate we endorse candidates for public office that have a clear record of supporting MCOFU.
